According to Cee Lo the four fathers of Atlanta hip hop are reuniting for an on-stage performance next month in their hometown of Atlanta, Ga.
During an interview with Sway on his Sirius radio morning show Cee Lo (member of the Goodie Mobb), has revealed the entire Dungeon Family will come to together this September for a reunion concert.
“Everybody’s coming back together,” Cee-Lo Green told Sway on Friday. The group just had a conference call the day before, Cee-Lo said, and they plan to reunite at the ONE Musicfest on Saturday, Sept. 10.
“We’re doing a Dungeon Family reunion. It’s going to be historic,” he said. Of course Sway had to ask specifically was the “Michael Jackson” of the crew Andre 3000 going to be there as well, Cee-Lo confirmed Three Stacks would be there too.
This comes as great news to fans who have been eager to see this crew of talent all on stage at once. Recently their story was retold via the Netflix documentary The Art of Organized Noize: “The crew all used to record in producer Rico Wade’s studio in his mother’s basement, which was nicknamed “The Dungeon.” Those late-night, crammed space sessions spawned seminal records from OutKast and Goodie Mob, along with songs and albums by other members of the crew.”
All of the Dungeon Family members have enjoyed great success over the years going their separate ways releasing solo projects.
“Big Boi still enjoys a prosperous solo rap career; Andre 3000 alternates between acting, cameos on other artists’ songs, and staying out of the limelight altogether; Cee-Lo found success with DJ Danger Mouse as the duo Gnarls Barkley, along with maintaining a successful solo career and being a judge on The Voice; Goodie Mob separated and reunited for an album in 2011; Killer Mike built a fan base as a solo artist, but has enjoyed a career resurgence as half of the duo Run The Jewels with El-P. Production team Organize Noize went on to create hits for other acts, even help spawn the career of new Atlanta super star Future.”
Dungeon Family’s roster: Big Boi and Andre 3000, Cee-Lo, Sleepy Brown, Rico Wade, Ray Murray, Killer Mike, Big Gipp, T-Mo, Cool Breeze, Witchdoctor, Backbone, Big Rube, and Slimm Calhoun.
Let’s hope nothing stops this great reunion from happening, all of these great acts appearing on stage together for the first time in over 20 years will be monumental to say the least.
