First his rival Jay Leno retired from late night, and now funny man David Letterman will follow suit and retire from his talk show staple. After 34 years of hosting one of the most watch late night talk shows in history, David Letterman and his long time band leader Paul Shaeffer will be retiring. This comes as no surprise because well… after 34 years of doing anything you’ll have to stop sooner or later. In the clip below the late night host talks about him discussing retirement with his young son Harry and around the 8 minute mark officially announces his actual retirement.
Word on the street is CBS is eyeing Jimmy Kimmel, who is also mutually interested but will only take the job with Letterman’s blessing.

“When this show stops being fun…I will retire 10 years later.”
