Yesterday (10/23), I got a random text from my boy DJ Spade one of NYC’s hottest club DJ’s right now. The text stated and I’m paraphrasing now, ” Yo be at Dave and Busters tonight by midnight with Pretty girls, tonight is Drake private BDay party.” As soon as I read the text, I hit up a few of my homegirls that I knew would appreciate the invite.
I arrived at Dave and Busters at midnight expecting to be rejected at the door immediately, because Drake’s security looked like they wanted no parts of guys in attendance that weren’t in his inner circle. I approached the doors and my boy JumpShot Jay ( no I don’t know if his jump shot is that good, it’s just his name), NYC’s top club promoter walks me right in with him. As I entered I witnessed what some would call heaven. Free Liquor courtesy of the Bday boy, video games galore, great music and some of New York City’s finest women.
As I walked around I saw all of NYC in the crowd mingling and enjoying DJ Freestyle (one of Drake’s favorite DJ’s from Houston Texas) spin some classic 90’s cuts that I’m sure Champagne Papi requested. I bumped into Rap Radar’s B-Dot and chatted it up with him for a bit before I made my way to the bar. After I grabbed my first free drink I walk over to the Skeeball station and low and behold Drizzy is two rows down from me with a gorgeous young lady who’s body was so perfect. It was obvious she was his Bday gift for the evening. I walked up to the BDay boy cautiously making sure I didn’t make any sudden movements that would make his John Coffee looking security guards attack me and wished him happy bday. He looked up smiled and said enjoy yourself it’s all on me and handed me a $2 bill. That being my first real interaction with the guy I had to laugh to myself and think wow this guy really just gave me money on HIS birthday. Right after that this old white Jewish guy named Mark hands Drake $2800 in $2 dollar bills, and Drake makes it rain Paid In Full style.
As the night went on more and more people packed into the venue. Strippers, video models, music industry people, Ashanti, Rita Ora, Angela Simmons (and her fine ass) the Slow Bucks guys, J. Cole stopped through for a bit with his homeless guy fro, A$ap Ferg, KeKe Palmer, OVO signees Makonnen and Partynextdoor, and plenty of Drizzy’s friends and family. To cap the night off the Marvin’s room rapper called everyone to the dance floor for a Shmoney Dance off. Drake grabbed the mic and encouraged all the ladies to show him their best Shomey dance. As the night dwindled down I heard rumblings of an after party but I decided to be an old man and take myself home.
I heard earlier this morning that Drizzy’s chief goon Chubbz made an IG video advising disgruntled YMCMB label mate Tyga to keep Drake’s name out of his mouth. Hopefully this Light skin on lightskin crime won’t escalate and cooler heads will prevail. All in all I had a great time helping Toronto’s favorite son celebrate his 28th Bday.
