This year in music we have lost music icons Phife Dawg, Prince and David Bowie, and today on Christmas we lost another pop/soul singer George Michael passed away at the age of 53.

As reported by Billboard the singer died due to heart failure. His publicist provided a statement about Michael’s passing. “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage,” the statement reads.
Michael was one the 80’s brightest stars to be openly gay and own the charts. His music was always embraced in rap. AZ  and Nas collaboration “Time” sampled the late singer’s song, “Careless Whisper,” while Slim Thug’s “Miss Mary” used the Symphonica creator’s track “A Moment With You.”
