For the debut episode of The Van Jones Show, CNN’s Van Jones sat down with JAY-Z for an exclusive interview on Saturday (Jan. 27).

The show was taped at the Time Warner Center in Manhattan, NYC,Van asked Hov about his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s “Shit Hole” comments,raisng Blue Ivy newborn twins, why he feels “the #MeToo movement was needed,” Colin Kaepernick, Meek Mill’s legal issues and black people fearing therapy.

The two also broke down JAY-Z’s 4:44 album, that’s up for eight GRAMMYs this year. He addressed why it’s a “confessional album,” deciding to open up about marital issues with his wife Beyoncé, mending those problems and his mother Gloria Carter coming out. JAY-Z on Donald Trump’s “shithold countries” comment:
“Everyone feels anger, but after the anger it’s really hurtful because he’s looking down on a whole population of people and he’s so misinformed because these places have beautiful people.”

On Colin Kaepernick being a hero, fighting against social injustices:
“Would you rather be playing football getting your head dinged in or would you rather be an iconic figure for the rest of your life?.”

JAY-Z on mending his marriage with Beyoncé:
“For us, we chose to fight for our love. For our family. To give our kids a different outcome. To break that cycle for black men and women.”
