Earlier this year David Letterman launched his Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. The legendary host has already had former U.S. president Barack Obama, George Clooney and Malala Yousafzai serving as the first three guests on Letterman’s new show. Next up is none other than JAY-Z, who appears on the upcoming fourth episode set to debut on April 6. Before it airs this Friday, a preview of their conversation has been released online. In the clip, the God MC breaks down what makes a great rapper to Letterman, using rap legends Snoop Dogg and Eminem as examples:
“You can have a great voice and you can just almost say anything,” Jay says. “I think Snoop Dogg has a great voice. Like, he can say, ‘One, two, three, and to the four,’ and it’s like, ‘Oh my god.’ It just sounds good, right? It just sounds really good.” The Brooklyn MC would later praise Slim Shady. “Or you can be someone like Eminem and just have amazing cadence,” he says, speaking of his “Renegade” collaborator. “It’s percussion inside the music.” “So there’s multiple ways to be really good. Some people just have it all.” How heaps some of the greatest praise ever on the two rap icons and Friday can’t get here fast enough, this interview is already one of the most anticipated of the great series David Letterman has created.
