Jay-Z caught the rap worlds attention with his stellar 13th album ‘4:44,’ and it being labeled his most personal album to date. Since it’s release Hov has dropped film clips for certain songs along with footnotes and today we got an hour long interview from the Rap Radar podcast. Released exclusively on Jay-Z’s streaming service TIDAL, Elliott Wilson the G.O.A.T. of hip hop journalism and his partner Brian “B. Dot” Miller traveled to Los Angeles to sit down with the rap titan.

For part 1 of the sit-down Elliott and B. Dot discuss the making of the album, the footnotes, the albums rollout and what made ‘4:44’ so important. Hov breaks down the meaning of some of his bars on the album, elaborating that the “Money Phone” bar wasn’t him bashing those who do but letting them know there’s more to life then throwing money in the club and he’s been dropping gems in his raps like that since his first album.

He also addressed the Kanye West situation, letting it be known Ye is still his brother, but bringing his wife and daughter into it was below the belt and they will clear things up on their own personal time. The hour long interview gives us great insight into what headspace Hov is in now and really shows B.Dot’s journalist skills. Stream Part 1 of the podcast exclusively on TIDAL below.
