Donald Sterling will no longer be attached to the Clippers. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has successfully obtained ownership of The LA Clippers, for a whopping $2.5 Billion. Ballmer won the bidding war Thursday night. Forbes recently estimated the team to be worth just over $575 Million, but Sterling drove the price of the team sky high.
Sterling’s estranged wife Shelly owns 50% of the team, and was foreseeing 4 other bidders other than Ballmer’s. The NBA must approve the bid, but sources say NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has been well aware of the pending sale for sometime, and will likely approve. Sterling has said he’ll be challenging the deal, but most likely his attempts will fail.
