Chadwick Boseman will play “The Hardest Working Man In Show Business” James Brown in Get on Up. The long-awaited biopic will be directed by Tate Taylor (The Help).
After the huge success of The Help, Taylor had scripts piling up consistently but the James Brown biopic intrigued him most.
“As I dug in and started to discover more about him, the good and the bad, I loved the reasons he was often bad and I loved the reasons he was good,” says Taylor. “I love that he would stop at nothing to keep reinventing himself so he could stay current, and as a result he changed music.”
Taylor told Entertainment Weekly
Boseman was hand-picked to play the role of a life time for a second time. He recently portrayed Baseball legend Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film 42. Boseman will be showing his versatility by singing and dancing in order to embody the talent of James Brown. According to the cast on board which includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Dan Aykroyd, and Jill Scott as Brown’s wife, there will be no disappointments with Chad’s portrayal of The Godfather of Soul. Get On Up is due in theaters August 1st 2014.
