‘SNL’ Hires Sasheer Zamata, First African-American Female Cast Member In Five Years

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels has finally added a black female cast member after Maya Rudolph left the show five years ago.The casting comes after showcases featuring black female comedians were held in New York and Los Angeles. Sasheer Zamata; an alum of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater, was chosen over very stiff competition and was one of two finalist. She beat out Amber Ruffin for the spot on the long running sketch show. After Kerry Washington hosted the show and played everyone from first lady Michelle Obama to Oprah Winfrey to Beyonce, eyebrows where raised to the fact there was an absence of a black female cast members. Sasheer will make her debut Jan. 18, when Drake hosts. Take a look at some of her stand up routine below.
