After being delayed for almost two years, the controversial Nina Simone biopic is actually going to see the light of day. The film, which stars Zoe Saldana as the legendary singer has been plagued with criticism from Nina’s daughter and others over the casting of Saldana, who is Dominican, Puerto Rican, Haitian and Lebanese.

Backlash had been following the film even before it was screened at Cannes, when Saldana was seen on set wearing makeup to darken her face and prosthetics to alter her nose.

The trailer gives us a look at the spiraling half of Simone’s career. Nina comes out April 22.
