After turning heads at this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards, 6LACK is now the latest star to appear on “Like a Version,” choosing to do a cover of Erykah Badu’s classic “On and On.”

The classic song launched Badu’s career and helped usher in the neo-soul genre, so it’s only right the multi-talented Atlanta crooner cover the Baduizm-era single and made it his own.

He also spoke to triple j about why he chose the song, noting that he has a deep connection with Badu’s music, saying the following:

“I think the funniest thing about the connection between me and her is when my daughter was being born, I had a show at the Observatory in California. So, I missed my daughter’s birth. And while I’m listening to her on the phone, Erykah Badu is performing in the background and I’m crying on the phone. And Erykah’s singing, and I’m listening to my baby being born… So I’ll always have a connection to her and everything she does.”
