Denzel Washington and Viola Davis are gonna make sure #OscarsSoWhite isn’t a thing next year. Their new film Fences, is already buzz worthy, and drumming up plenty of interest. Based on the Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play by August Wilson, it made it’s debut on Broadway in 1987 and starred James Earl Jones, Mary Alice, and Courtney B. Vance- who this year took home an Emmy for his interpretation of Johnnie Cochran in The People Vs. O.J. Simpson.
The play was revived in 2010, and also starred Denzel Washington. He won a Tony for his portrayal.
Fences takes place in the 1950’s in Pittsburg, and tells the story of a once-promising baseball player named Troy, (played by Denzel Washington), who now drives a trash truck and struggles to provide for his family. The movie opens in theaters Christmas day.
