Marvel is attempting to keep things pretty interesting for years to come. Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man are all due for some major changes. Although the big three will be reunited in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the three iconic fixtures will have very different looks in Marvel Comics, as soon as this October. The change is all part of a new initiative called Avengers NOW. Along with that will come the debut of new books for the Big Three.
In November we’ll see a new story unfold for Captain America. Steve Rogers will no longer find himself suitable, leaving someone else to put on the stars and stripes in his place. Yesterday Marvel’s CCO Joe Quesada revealed that Sam Wilson will be taking over Steve Rogers’ spot as Captain. The switch can easily be written into the film adaptation, considering Anthony Mackie starred as Sam Wilson (Falcon) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. While the big change for Iron Man will be a new signature suit, Thor on the other hand is facing the biggest change of them all.
Being written into the new series of comics starting in October, Thor will go from God to…Goddess. That’s right. Thor will now be female. The mighty one will no longer be able to pick up his hammer. Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso tells EW:
“Someone has to pick up the hammer. And someone does. And they become Thor. There are several women in Thor’s life, and one of them is going to be the new Thor. You aren’t going to find out who it is for some time. This is a slowly unfolding mystery.”
