Alicia Keys dropped her new and deeply personal single tonight, titled “Blended Family,” and it features A$AP Rocky. The song is dedicated to Swizz Beatz’s son from his previous marriage with Mashonda, and she reflects on the joys of stepping into motherhood.
The song started minor controversy online before it’s release, because Keys posted an Instagram caption where she detailed that it was in fact also dedicated to Mashonda, who called Keys out in the past for being a home wrecker. But it looks like they’re taking steps toward healing, with this being the first major step. Mashonda also showed her support for the track on her Instagram page. “Blended Family” will appear on Alicia Keys’ next album titled Here.
My new song Blended Family (What You Do For Love) will be available everywhere at Midnight. I’m so excited for you to hear this song. It means so much to me and our whole family. The understanding, compassion and support we’ve found is a powerful testament to the healing that comes when we choose love. Especially for the kids… the most important part of our lives. Celebrating @mashondatifrere for our commitment to each other with support and true growth. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🌟🌟🌟🙌🏽🙌🏽
