Did anyone see this coming? Singer/Songwriter/Producer The-Dream announced today that he’s parting ways with Def Jam; the label that’s been his home for the past six years as a recording artist, to which he’s released five solo albums under. He took to Instagram and posted the infamous Def Jam logo, with the caption:

I will miss this logo. It all started here! Love Everything that I achieved there, EXODUS THE-DREAM #exodusthedream

But it looks like we can look forward to more music coming under different circumstances. He wrote in a separate post:

“Creativity! My own Time my own Way. Just me and spat my Engineer at the Time. No label at All! Perfect.”

The-Dream is responsible for a bulk of Def Jam’s success throughout the years, including Rihanna’s record breaking “Umbrella.”
