Selma stars David
Oyelowo (The Butler) as Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King.
Produced by Oprah via her Harpo production company.
The film focuses on the three month period surrounding the 1965 Freedom March from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, which resulted in President Lyndon Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act. The trailer focuses on the events that happened during the build up to the actual march itself. One of the hardest things to do in film is to cover the impact a historical figure like Dr. King had on history. Focusing on just this three month period in his life is brilliant because it leaves the director room to leave no rock in turn from this short length of time.
In addition to what should be a breakout performance from Oyelowo, Selma features Cuba Gooding Jr., Alessandro Nivola, Giovanni Ribisi, Common, Carmen Ejogo, Lorraine Toussaint, Tim Roth, and Oprah.
